I FINALLY uploaded all of the videos and photos from this show, acquired important information, got the time, and finished updating my profile website!

Luckily, Nic was on his new schedule this week, so I was able to go with him. It would have been very disappointing to have him miss this show! We got there early and bought the “Polysics or Die!!!!” CD for the lowest price I’d probably ever get to buy it for, and the sexy “Hey! Bob! My Friend!” vinyl from the band member Kayo. Sadly, I wasn’t 100% sure she was a band member at the time and I didn’t know her name then either, and I passed up my chance to get a pic with her like a coward. I reasoned that I’d get a chance later that night… fool!! I am not pleased with myself because I’ve let my sense of urgency with taking photos decline… this MUST change. I also almost got a chance to get a photo with the lead singer Hiroyuki “Hiro” Hayashi in his orange jumpsuit, but sadly I reached down for my cam and then looked up and he was already gone! *pout* No International Bands category in “Kat with Bands” for me. :( No photos with amazing Japanese band members… & it was such a special opportunity. At least it helps to know it’s not the first time they came here… so I hope they come back. I hope other J-bands come too, COME ON MAXIMUM THE HORMONE! I am seeing Dir En Grey in a few days.

Anyway, I also got to see my friend/ex-coworker Ryan (aka Carport), which was really nice since I haven’t seen him in a few years! I hope we can hang out more soon, because he never ceases to entertain me with his unique personality. I also have to attribute him as a large influence for my love of alcohol and J-Horror movies, as the first time I ever got drunk was with him and the first J-movie I ever saw, Battle Royale, was with him! Thanks Ryan!

I hung out around him and his girlfriend and his friend, and drank with Nic. We nabbed Polysics posters off of the walls, yay! I will always love nabbing posters!

1. Here is Nic and I at the bar… wow, we’ve aged! That’s kind of sad…

There was an opening band called Jaguar Love, which I’m still not sure what to make of. The sound of their music did remind me a bit of Ima Robot though, who I like… Also, it has former members of Pretty Girls Make Graves, who I kinda like.

Nic and I got pretty close to the front when Polysics came on.

2. Here’s a video of Polysics opening their set with “Buggie Techinica”

Their performance was just incredible! I feel like such a Japanophile, but it’s like everyone there was one, and the crowd was so loud for them! This was the first show that I’ve felt truly excited about in such a long time. I saw a J-band once before but it was a very small performance and I think they felt a little too Americanized! Polysics really felt like they came straight from Tokyo, which they did, and they had a highly-energetic and stylized stage presence!

This is an excerpt from a blog that one of the members, Hiro I think, posted about a show they did in AZ in Feb 2007… I hope they felt this way again with our show:
“Yeah!!Today we play in Arizona! Polysics’ favorite place!!
Everyone here is nice and warm. When we’re on stage,we feel like an idol band.
Lots of screams and shouts from girls.
Reminds me of an old Beatles-like Japanese band from the sixties.

The show was excellent, too perfect!!The crowd was very wild and high tensed. GREAT!

Thanks to the fabulous audience, we were able to play a great show.
My exhaustion was at its peak, but when I saw this crowd, this was gone in an instant.”

3. Lead singer, Hiro… he was the easiest to shoot so I have a lot of pics of him

10. Video clip of Polysics performing “I My Me Mine”… Unfortunately this was cut off when a security guy told me to stop recording… Which is STUPID because I’m not selling it (not even high enough quality for that) and as long as I’m not doing that and making them lose money, music and art should not be controlled like that, it should be free!

11. & 12.  Hiro again…

16. Video of Polysics performing “My Sharona”… I HAD to get this one because it was one of the ones I knew more (for obvious reasons) so this was some sneaky recording. Unfortunately I was not willing to sneak any after this and it would have been really nice to get some of the others. I really like the songs where the girls sing together, they sound so cool!

17. – 20. Hiro minus sunglasses, it was nice to see his face :)

21. Silly shot I snapped when he got really close up to me… this was partially due to the slowness of my camera

22. My shot when Fumi got close, I like how I caught her hair flying!

Apparently Polysics is still touring all over the US right now… TX tonight (wish I could hop on over there!), Georgia, New York, Chicago, Cali, etc… Go check them out if they’re coming to a city near you!! http://www.myspace.com/polysicsna
