Our “Fake” Wedding & Our Plans for the “Real” Wedding

Last Wednesday, the 26th, Dominic and I got legally married!  It was our 3 and 1/2 year anniversary of being together. I am very excited to be his wife!

You were not excluded from our wedding, and this was not a Las Vegas-style wedding! (EEEWWWWW!)

The situation is that we have been planning on getting married with the whole ceremony and reception in March 2010. However, we have been planning on getting legally married ahead of time for a few months now. The reason being that we are planning on going to Japan for our honeymoon after the ceremony & reception, and I wanted to be able to do that with my new last name. Therefore, we were going to do this to get my name changed on everything and get my passport ahead of time.

We were planning on keeping it on the downlow… However, some of our family and friends did not wish to do so as well! Not to mention someone was bound to notice my last name changing, haha… Besides… I was eagerly anticipating my beautiful new name! (No offense to my family!) When it comes down to it, I really like saying that I am married too!

Also, situations have arisen in which the actual ceremony & reception are being delayed. My 15 year old car became undrivable, so I was forced to buy another car (instead of getting stuck in an endless spiral of repairs). In the current state of the economy, my parents also have not been able to get their house sold and my mother is out of the job and trying to find another one.

I also wanted to be in a healthier physical state (lose weight) before the wedding. I don’t want to hate the way I look in the photos, and I want to be comfortable. I have been trying to accomplish that since we got engaged in Feb 2009, but I am going to need more time.

So it looks like it may be in Fall of 2010 that we are able to do the REAL ceremony & reception, followed by the honeymoon. We anticipate that we may be financially ready by then. Who knows for sure? I was hoping to see the cherry blossoms in Kyoto in Spring, but I am sure it will be beautiful regardless. Also, the summer is not even an option for a wedding in Arizona!

We got our marriage license in June of this year, which costs money, and it would have expired if we had not gotten married before June 2010. At the time we got it, we were still aiming for March.

Also, after February of 2010, it would have been a year since we had gotten engaged. We got engaged for a reason, and that is because we wanted to get married, to express our commitment to each other. We have been wanting to be married since about 2007! Neither of us wanted an engagement that lasted for a lot longer than a year… that was just too long in our minds. It has already been 1/2 a year since we got engaged.

That being said…

This is something that I have been dreaming about for almost my whole life. I want to do it right. I have seen many other people’s invitations, their weddings… and I do not wish for anything less. You only live once, and I will do everything I can to assure that I only marry once.

This may sound bratty or spoiled, and yes I am prideful and I do have it easier than other people, but just a court room wedding is not good enough for us! The thought is embarassing to me! The actual ceremony & reception are going to be AMAZING! Dominic and I value our love deeply and have always treated our relationship with respect and done what we can to treat it in a very classy manner. We may not be rich, but when we have an Anniversary to celebrate for example, we do it with elegance!

Also, I personally have unique tastes… if anyone has seen my house, wedding ring, and  really knows me, you should understand! It will almost positively be unlike any ceremony you have ever seen! I want to express myself with the wedding, and I want the reception to be incredibly fun! I wish I could say more about what I have planned, but I want it to be a surprise!!

It will seem like forever, but we will be sending out invitations and I hope that my family and friends will be able to make it, and treat it like the only wedding!

And by the way… I am NEVER going to Las Vegas!

Some Photos from the 26th (I wont post all 300!)

(Please let me know if you would like me to send you a larger version of any of these!)

Everything was so random and crazy that I didn’t think to take any videos. That’s slightly disappointing, however, I will be sure to hire a videographer for the ceremony & reception!

1. Me in the car on the way to the court. Dominic’s mom helped me curl my hair, THANK YOU SO MUCH LOURDES! (I haven’t gotten my hair done in months so the color looks terrible. This, of course, will not be the case for the REAL ceremony!)

2. Dominic putting his tie on… I love this picture’s natural and nostalgic look

3. Straightening myself up outside of the court… the sun blinding me. My mom brought me the flowers, which I wasn’t expecting! THANK YOU MOM!… Come to think of it, I should have thrown them at Bri afterward. :p At least she carried them a lot!

8. Our HILARIOUS and rockin judge! He was so much fun and he ran around shooting pictures of everyone! I never expected such a silly judge!

11. Bri and I really cracked up at this picture… the way my eyes look! I’ve never seen them look that way, but it looks very cute and happy. Maybe this was when the judge started talking about what brought Nic and I together, LOL. We were both grinning widly at that!

12. & 13. Me and Dominic’s wedding rings (pics taken prior to the 26th). As you can see, I didn’t go for the traditional wedding band! I LOVE my ring, it is so beautiful and unique and so Kat-esque!  None of the other rings were remotely close to it and I knew I wanted it the moment I saw it. The diamond is a heart-shape with high clarity. (The yellowish look is from the lighting in our house.)

15. “I now pronounce you husband and wife,  you may kiss the bride.” I love this photo! The blur effect surrounding us was not done with computer effects, my dad shot it this way… it looks magical, like our kiss is cataclysmic!

16. & 17. Husband and wife :) I love the boyish grin on his face in the 2nd photo!

Afterward, Dom, Bri, and I went to Benihana. We met some very awesome, fun,  talkative people at our table. The meal was very delicious and we had a wonderful time. I expected a little better, but it’s about the same as Ah-so, but more expensive. I used a certificate for a free meal for my birthday though, which I got from Benihana’s newsletter, so that helped! (Actually, Ah-so’s fried rice and shrimp are better. It was nice that Benihana had a sake flight though, which I got twice!)

21. Bri and her 65 year old fiance! Bah ha ha… this guy was so random and HILARIOUS.

22. The employees at Benihana were so nice as to take this picture of us and give it to us in the frame you see!

It was a wonderful day with wonderful photos and I will always cherish them!
