After being HUGE fans of Incubus for about 9 years, I finally got to attend one of their shows with my best friend Gemini. My fiance Dominic also joined us, however I have seen Incubus with him at least twice that I can recall. I have seen Incubus perform about 5 times that I can recall off of the top of my head, including the concert in Tucson that I had the amazing privilege (no pun) of meeting them! However… it was different this time, because Gemini and I shared a special bond of love for Incubus when we were in our early teens, so it felt really special to be able to go with her!
After the long drive to Jobing.com Arena, we arrived at the show around 5:30pm-ish. We intentionally came 2 hours early in order to get up to the front of the pit. Despite that, and it being a weekday, I was astonished at the small amount of people waiting to get in! (I’m SO glad that I took the day off of work!) The wait to get in seemed really short, and we managed to get up front! We didn’t even have to force our way into the front, since a girl who was in the front allowed us to take her spot (she was from a meet and greet and had seats)!
I really enjoyed chatting away with my best friend and fiance, so the wait was barely noticeable. (Unfortunately my fiance did not have it so easy, because his stomach started to hurt… but it didn’t take TOO long for him to get over it.)
However, there was an unpleasantness during our wait for the show to start… Some typical catty-in-a-bad-way concert n00b girl started bitching at Gemini, claiming she was leaning on her and rudely insisted she move. Gem was like, ‘Do you see anywhere I can move?’… The girl bitched back about how we were so rude when we got there. I was like, ‘What are you talking about?! We were let in and you arrived after that!’. Bitch-girl with tacky style said some bullshit about being there at 4:30, which I did not even dignify with a response… whenever she had arrived, the fact is that she was not there when we arrived into the pit. I just said to her, ‘Look, there IS nowhere to move, do you see ANY empty space. Have you ever BEEN in a mosh pit before?…’.
The little brat shut her hole after that, but through the rest of the time waiting the girl and her friend were blatantly bitching, trying to get attention and act like they were so great, and being fucking retarded about it… For example, they started up a conversation about how their boobs were so big and they could totally beat someone up with them. No joke, these girls were like A cups, MAYBE B at the largest… It was fucking ridiculous, as Gem and I are known for being MEGA busty (to say it nicely) and they were trying to win THAT battle?! Not to mention it’s stupid to even think of beating anyone up with your boobs… It’s like a short-range pillow fight! haha… I just wanted to be like, “Yeah bitch?! Well I can shatter your nose with my fist!”… They also had some canned little conversation about, “When we turn 21, we’re gonna go to Vegas and party!”. They were generic, media-raised, shallow, pathetic creatures. *hiss* Needless to say, they learned the ways of the mosh HARDCORE, and left complaining about their injuries!
ANYWAY… The band that opened up the show was called The Duke Spirit. I was surprised to find that they were female-fronted and from London. The lead singer had a lot of charisma (and is pretty sexy) and had nice solid vocals. (My fiance looked away from the singer in respect of me, but enjoyed the music and danced with me.) The band played their instruments quite well, and their music was enjoyable. The lead singer also played a mean harmonica. At the time I still wasn’t sure if pictures were ok, and the guards were RIGHT in front of us, so I didn’t take any pictures of their performance. I did, however, get their set list!
As for Incubus… I took 129 photos! Of course, I am not posting them all on here… I have selected some of the best shots, totaling 24 (which is still a lot). They put on a wonderful high-energy and solid performance. Brandon’s vocals sound like the album as usual, and their newer music, though more mellow than their older music, rocked just as hard live!
There was also a very cool part of the show in which a fight broke out with some penis-contest assholes in the pit right in our area. That sucked, we were getting smooshed. The cool part was that Incubus, who was playing “Drive” at the time very mellowly with Mike and Brandon in the front of the stage, stopped mid-song. They scolded the fighting assholes, who were ensuing much pain upon us, and admidst that whole pause they looked and spoke right at us! It was nice to have such personal attention from them for a few moments.
We were a bit disappointed that there were no songs performed from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. I’ve seen them do so at other shows, but it was Gem’s 1st time seeing them. Also, as far as I can recall, I have NEVER seen them perform “Make Yourself”, one of my favorite songs of theirs! The last song they performed was “Let’s Go Crazy”, a cover of Prince. It was a unique sound for them, but they pulled it off with flying colors… it was VERY fun!
1. Video of Incubus opening their show with “Pardon Me”
2. Brandon Boyd, lead singer of Incubus… Whom I strongly admire as an artist. Most photos are of him, as is usually the case with the lead singer, but also due to proximity.

3. Brandon, Ben Kenney (bassist), and Jose Pasillas (drummer)

12. Mike Einziger… this is a beautiful shot. Mike has a way of staring right in your eyes and you just wonder what is going through his mind. The poor guy just had carpel tunnel surgery when I met him in Tucson.
